Our process
Century-old techniques, modern precision.
Our repair, tuning, and restoration methods come from more than a century of craftsmanship and innovation.

Repair Services
Bars and other components can become splintered, chewed, cracked, or knocked out of shape through use, age, and transport.
In many cases, damaged bars can be reshaped, repaired, and retuned instead of replaced. That can extend the life of the instrument while saving the cost and delay of new bars.
When replacement bars are needed, we use only authentic aged Honduran rosewood, top-grade alloys for metal bars, and paduk or synthetic materials when needed.
Cracked chimes can often be recut and reassigned to another note, reducing the need for brand-new tubes.
We also repair frames, rails, keybeds, braces, resonators, felts, cords, and insulators to improve stability and reduce unwanted noise.

Tuning Services
Bars of any material can drift out of tune through heavy use, age, and moving. We tune marimbas, xylophones, vibraphones, bells, and other keyboard percussion instruments using methods rooted in the J. C. Deagan tradition.
We can tune to A440, A442, or another requested pitch standard.
For instruments where harmonic tuning applies, we tune both the fundamental and the proper upper harmonic. Xylophones typically use quint tuning; marimbas and vibraphones use octave tuning.
This reduces dissonant overtones and gives the instrument a cleaner, more stable sound across the keyboard.

Restoration Services
Heavy use and age can leave an instrument with poor resonance, tired finishes, and an overall worn appearance.
A full restoration strips and cleans the instrument down to the raw material, then rebuilds the finish with appropriate stains and enamels.
Bars are inspected for cracks, splintering, and other defects before repair, tuning, and refinishing.
